Worship

Dictionary definition: A feeling of profound love & admiration.

This topic is going to be a hard one for me to write because I don’t think I worship anything, I don’t go to church or a mosque, I don’t belong to a religious institution, I have no pictures of Christ on my wall, but that’s okay, because you probably do, so maybe you can help me understand why you worship a painting or a statue. You say it’s not the image that’s important after all it’s just a painting or a statue made by man, but what is behind the image, the unimaginable, the powerful, the unquestionable. I shouldn’t be surprised that people worship things, since the dawn of time man has been afraid. Say he was afraid of the sun’s power so he worshiped it, stars, trees...Etc, and why shouldn’t he be afraid, born into emptiness with no knowledge of nature and the universe, he had no scientific evidence to show him he shouldn’t be afraid. Medieval people saw what nature could do, great floods, droughts and ice ages, they had reason to be afraid, they didn’t understand nature, so rather than trying to understand it, they surrendered in front of it, they even made animal sacrifices, sometimes human sacrifices to appease the gods, it was simple nature at work but people couldn’t understand it, they thought they had made the gods angry so they gave the gods the only thing they had, people, and if storms went on, they gave them more people. Man has always been afraid of the unknown, and as the obsession with science has proved, it is man’s desperate desire to be free of the unknown and explore the universe and all things in it, to explain the unexplainable. But even now when we know about the universe scientifically, its not enough for man. In the past he had no way to explain the messages that prophets brought, about the end of the world, heaven, hell etc.., so just incase the messages were true, he decided to keep worshiping, JUST INCASE. Thankfully in most countries now, human sacrifices have been abolished by civilized society or gov’ts even though animals keep getting slaughtered for this purpose. So why is man still afraid of the gods’ wraths? Well, because he can’t see God and he can’t explain everything and rather than accepting that we are all part of the universe and understanding that worshiping that worshiping is keeping us in a state of fear, we just go to churches or mosques and say “worship or go to hell”. For such an intelligent species that we are (humans), it makes me uneasy to think that we are praying to what is someone else’s interpretation of what this God looks like. Whatever religion you belong to it makes no difference; you are kneeling in front of what is no more than a nice painting. “How dare you insult our religion and the god we worship, you will go to hell Wilson you evil thing...”, okay, some of you may now have thoughts about the nerve of this short nobody trying to divert the world, but can I ask you something before you put a bullet to my head? Why do you worship something you can’t see? What purpose does it serve? Will you be given eternal life? Will you be given lots of food and virgins to serve you? If these places really do exist, why do u need to worship in order to get in? If God really exists then he has space for everyone, not only those who say their prayers everyday. But if we’ve lived a life of compassion loving everyone like they were our own, I’m sure even the most intolerant God would give u a pass. Remember even the most violent men on the planet worship God, just because they were told to by their parents but their behaviors reflect none of it. You didn’t choose to be Christian or muslim, the adults made sure of that and for those who didn’t agree, they were called non-believers like myself or other pointless words to mean the same. I guess you are angry now, but first listen to your mind why are u angry? Is it because these words are conflicting with what u believed in? or your angry because all this time, u believed the wrong things? OUR OPTIMISM

NOW MOST OF YOU READING THIS BLOG MAY COME UP WITH RANDOM CONCLUSIONS BASED ON MY ARTICLES, e.g, "HE ISN'T PATRIOTIC AT ALL!!!" or "WHO THE HELL DOES HE THINK HE IS? GOD? ", I'M ONLY SPEAKING MY MIND REGRDLESS.

RWANDESE ARE MOST OF THE TIME DISAPPOINTED IN THEMSELVES, ASK WHY !, HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN A TAXI (TWEGERANE) AND AS IT COMES TO A ZEBRA CROSSING, THERES A LADY WHO HAPPENS TO BE CROSSING AT HER OWN PACE (REALLY SLOW), WITH NO DELAY YOU BEGIN TO HEAR RANTS FROM OTHER PASSENGERS "ARIKO ABANYARWANDA!!!" TRANSLATING " BUT RWANDESE", IN A DISGUSTED TONE. IT IS COMMON IF YOU LIVE IN KIGALI.

THAT IS A RESULT OF OUR OPTIMISM, WE WANT EVERYTHING IN LIFE TO PLAY OUT AS WE LIKE, SO WE SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR THE OUTCOMES. ONCE THINGS GO SLIGHTLY A DIFFERENT WAY, WE BEGIN TO CURSE, CURSING NOT ANYTHING ELSE BUT OUR OWN KIND (RWANDESE).

I WONDER WHAT OUR AIR WILL BE FILLED WITH ONCE THIS VISION 2020 DOESN'T PLAY OUT AS EXPECTED. I WAS ONCE TALKING TO A STREET CHAP, ASKING HIM ABOUT HIS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE AND ALL, THE YOUNG LADS COMMENTS BROUGHT ME TO REALISE JUST HOW EVEN THE GOVERNMENT IS HAVING A FOREPLAY IN CULTIVATING OUR HOPELESS OPTIMISM, THE YOUNG MAN TOLD ME, "TWESE TUZAKIRA MURI VENTI VENTI, SI KAGAME WABYIVUGIYE SE?". I BURST OUT WITH LAUGHTER BUT WITH A BIG QUESTION INSIDE, "WHO WILL EXPLAIN TO THIS GUY REALLY?".

I KNOW ITS A CASE OF MISUNDERSTANDING AND ILLETERACY IN SOME CASES BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE THAT THINK SIMILARLY YET THEY ARE EDUCATED?

MY ARGUMENT IS, IT IS LOGICALLY WRONG TO PREDICT FUTURE EVENTS, EVEN WITH HIGHER LEVELS OF CERTAINTY. SO IT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE FOR ANYONE TO PUBLICIZE THE 2020 MASTERPLAN. YOU MAY ARGUE ON THE OTHER HAND THAT, IT MOTIVATED ENTRPRENEURS AND RWANDESE CITIZENS, NO DOUBT IT DID, BUT THERES A BETTER WAY, LET THE CITIZENS MOTIVATE THEMSELVES!!, HOW?, SAY I WAS AMONG THE COMMITTEE THAT WAS CHARGED WITH DRAWING AND PUBLICIZING VISION 2020, MY STRATEGY WOULD BE, LET THE CITIZEN KNOW THE BENEFITS OF AN ACTION IF IT IS DONE, THAT WAY DEPENDING ON THE BENEFIT, HE WILL STRIVE TO ARCHIVE IT. THE WAY IT WAS PUT FORWARD INSTEAD WAS, THEY TOLD US (RWANDESE) THAT THE COUNTRY WILL BE VERY SUCCESSFUL, SELF SUSTAINING, WILL HAVE VERY GOOD CITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE, BASICALLY THEY GAVE US A DREAM, NOT A MISSION OR A TARGET, THEY GAVE US A PROMISE, SO LET'S JUST SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR THEM TO FULFILL THE PROMISE.
